Choosing the Right Fabric for Comfort
Fabric makes or breaks a shirt. A design can be stunning, but if the fabric pills after two washes, you'll regret it. Look for 100% ringspun cotton - it's soft, breathable, and holds color better than standard cotton. I've found that shirts in the 180-200 GSM range hit the sweet spot between comfy and durable.
Tri-Blends for Year-Round Wear
Tri-blend shirts (cotton, polyester, rayon) are my go-to for San Diego's mild winters. They're lighter, drape well, and the print stays intact because the fabric doesn't stretch as much. The Kaworu Beach Day tee uses this blend - it feels like a worn-in favorite from day one.
Heavyweight for Longevity
For a shirt that lasts five years, go with heavyweight cotton (over 200 GSM). The Unit-01 Rampage Tee uses this. It's a bit thicker, but the print - especially large back prints - won't crack as easily. Downside: it feels stiffer and may shrink more. Wash cold and hang dry to avoid surprises.
